The overhaul was funded entirely through the town's capital investment plan for local parks.

"We are undergoing a lot of exciting projects in the Town of Hempstead and it makes everything worthwhile when we see young athletes ‘having a ball’ in our parks," Clavin said in a statement.

Park upgrades include full replacement of the synthetic turf with custom "Broncos" logos in the end zone, as it's the home field for the Seaford Broncos.

There is also new fencing, bleachers and a backstop. In all, the project had a $1.4 million price tag from the capital investment, the town said.

"While contending with the COVID-19 pandemic, I observed firsthand the negative impact that not having organized recreation had on our youth. I stood firmly with parents, coaches and athletes to promote the ‘Let Them Play’ movement," Councilman Chris Carini said. "I’m thrilled these new fields will help cement the Town of Hempstead’s place as a leader among local recreation."

The baseball field at Seamans Neck Park is also receiving an upgrade through a $926,000 capital investment. A new synthetic turf infield and outfield have been installed.
