Seaford Manor Principal Retiring From 'Best Job In The Whole World'

SEAFORD, NY — A career educator is ready for her next chapter.

Debra Emmerich, principal of Seaford Manor Elementary School, will retire on Aug. 1 after 18 years in Seaford. She has been principal at Seaford Manor for the last 14 years.

The Rockville Centre native started in 1985 as a teacher at P.S. 327 in Brooklyn. She remained connected to Long Island by coaching her gymnastics at her alma mater, South Side High School, as well as Volleyball at Valley Stream South.

Emmerich helped shape academic, social and emotional and extracurricular programs at Manor
and throughout the district.

"People have told me I have high expectations," Emmerich said. "My staff always rises to the occasion. They want to do a great job."

During her tenure at Seaford Manor, Emmerich saw the creation of the literacy lounge, adjacent to the library.

"I just feel very fortunate that I got to carry out my passion at Seaford Manor School," she said. "Whoever takes over after me is going to be a very lucky person because they will have the best job in the whole world."
