Town Of Hempstead 'Very Cautious' As Storm Strengthens: Supervisor
The storm is expected to primarily be a rain and wind event from Saturday night through Sunday afternoon.
HEMPSTEAD, NY — While the Town of Hempstead is expected to see primarily a rain event this weekend, a slight track change could alter the forecast.
"We're going to be very cautious in the town and we're going to be prepared," Supervisor Don Clavin told Patch. "We already have the plows on our trucks. We're putting the sand on the back of our spreaders."
The worst of the storm is expected to start late Saturday as snow before quickly changing to rain with possible wind gusts into Sunday afternoon of over 30 miles per hour, the National Weather Service said.

Regardless of the type of precipitation, Clavin cautions it won't be pleasant for residents.
"There's nothing wrong with running out and getting a little shopping done on Friday evening or first thing Saturday," he said.

This system could leave customers without power in its wake, but PSEG Long Island said they are closely monitoring the track of this latest storm.
"We have performed system and logistic checks, and have a full complement of personnel who will mobilize for restoration, as needed. Our crews will work to safely restore any outages as quickly as conditions will allow," a PSEG Long Island spokesperson said.
For the town's part, Clavin said they are in coordination with various agencies to help expedite any outages. Before this storm arrives, another problematic weather event is on the horizon for Tuesday night.
"We might be able to get by on Sunday, but Tuesday into Wednesday is already shaping up to be a potential significant rain and wind storm with expected electrical outages," Clavin said.
