Wantagh Crash: Vehicle Swerves, Hits Pole, Overturns

WANTAGH, NY — A driver swerved to avoid hitting an animal in Wantagh, crashed into a utility pole and overturned in Wantagh over the weekend.

The Wantagh Fire Department was called Saturday to Seamans Neck Road and Express Way, near Jerusalem Avenue. Third Assistant Chief Bill Stevens, who arrived first at the wreck, stabilized one person's head and neck as numerous patrol cars, ambulances and emergency services units arrived.

The crash left downed wires strewn across the roadway and firefighters sought the response of PSE&G.

The driver was taken to Nassau University Medical Center by a police ambulance in stable condition.

Firefighters stabilized the vehicle, which was on its side, and removed the roof in order to pull out the driver. Crews stretched a hose line as a precaution during the removal, which took about 25 minutes.
