Wantagh H.S. Senior Recognized As County's Top Football Player Of Year

Dylan Martini won the Tom Thorpe Memorial Award as he led his team this season with 1,976 rushing yards and 35 touchdowns.

WANTAGH, NY — A Wantagh High School senior has been named the best football player in Nassau County.

Dylan Martini is the first Wantagh player to receive the Tom Thorpe Memorial Award in its 82-year history.

The running back finished the season with 1,976 rushing yards and 35 touchdowns, including the playoffs. Martini was instrumental in his team winning the Long Island championship.

"It means a lot,” he said of winning the award. "Wantagh football is just so historic. It’s crazy to see that I’m on par with many of the great players here."

This spring, Martini will play his fourth season on the varsity lacrosse team. He has committed
to playing lacrosse for the State University of New York at Albany, where he is considering majoring in either business or sports medicine.
