Police ID Driver Killed In Wantagh State Parkway Head-On Crash
State police have identified the driver killed in a head-on crash Thursday morning on the Wantagh State Parkway.

WANTAGH, NY — State police have identified the driver killed in a head-on crash in Wantagh.
Around 5:15 a.m. Thursday, Alexander Simek, 73, of Albrightsvlle, Pennsylvania, was driving a 2019 Chevrolet the wrong way on the southbound lanes of the parkway when he collided with a 2014 Honda driven by a 54-year-old North Bellmore man, state troopers said.
Simek died of his injuries on the parkway and the other driver was taken to Nassau University Medical Center with lower body injuries. He was expected to survive.

The parkway reopened about four hours after the crash, state police said.
Video appeared to show a red SUV and another vehicle colliding, News 12 reported. Residents reported hearing a helicopter at the wreck.

State police asked that anyone with information about the crash call 631-756-3300.
Public records indicated Simek worked for Grand Union, a chain of supermarkets that went bankrupt and was sold off piecemeal in the early 2000s.
