Wantagh High School Girls Basketball Coach Wins Journalism Award
The native Long Islander and massive sports fan coaches at her alma mater. She also works for News 12 Long Island.

WANTAGH, NY — A Wantagh High School girls' varsity basketball coach has been honored for her excellence in reporting with News 12 Long Island. The Nassau County Firefighters Museum & Education Center held its yearly Badge of Courage Celebration on Oct. 18. The event recognizes members of the community for their heroic actions and support of fire safety, prevention and education.
The museum announced four awards for notable contributions to fire service. This year's winner of the Keith Lane Memorial Excellence in Journalism Award was none other than Erin Colton.
The Keith Lane award recognizes journalists for outstanding reporting in informing and engaging communities with news and information to help save lives and inspire people to become volunteer firefighters.

Colton joined News 12 in 2004 after graduating from Syracuse University. She started as a production assistant and worker her way up to writer, producer, sports anchor and now news reporter and anchor.
