Wantagh HS Student Killed In NH Boating Accident

WANTAGH, NY — A Wantagh High School student, who was in a deadly boating accident, will be laid to rest this weekend.

William Desroches, 15, was killed on Aug. 6 when his watercraft was hit by another rider in New Hampshire, Newsday reported.

Desroches, who going into his junior year, was on the soccer and lacrosse teams.

"Fifteen years will never be enough for all of us to have had him in our lives, but we are so very blessed for the time that we did have with him," the obituary states.

A GoFundMe page has received more than $13,000 in donations.

Desroches had a passion for the armed forces.

"From three years old he wanted to join the military and that was his plan," the obituary said.

Visitation was being held on Friday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Charles Schmitt Funeral Home on Merrick Road in Seaford.

The Mass is Saturday, 9:30 a.m. at St. Frances de Chantal RC Church in Wantagh.
