Wantagh HS Student Suspended After Making Verbal Gun Threats

12th grader was found to have pictures of guns on his cell phone.

A senior was suspended Thursday after building administrators discovered that he was making verbal threats about bringing a gun to school, according to district officials.

After being informed Thursday morning of the verbal threats, Wantagh district officials immediately reacted by interviewing the student and contacting his mother, said Wantagh school district spokeswoman Karina Stabile. School officials discovered during their investigation that the boy also had gun-related photos on his cell phone, which prompted the district to contact police.

“The district has suspended the student and is assisting the police as they
further investigate this matter,” said Stabile in a statement. “The safety of our students and staff is our top priority, and we view matters such as this extremely seriously. We thank the Nassau County Police for their prompt response.”
