Water Main Break Forces Closure of Seaford Harbor School

Water gushes from elementary school building but no property damage reported.

The already shortened Thanksgiving week got even shorter for students at after a water main break Monday morning forced the school to close for the day.

Before the beginning of the school day, custodians arriving to work at the school  discovered water streaming from the building, according to Seaford School District spokeswoman Felicia Febrizio. The cause of the accident was determined to be a break in a pipe, originally installed in 1962 and located under the back parking lot of the school, Febrizio said. The break occurred where the water comes into the building, which is located on located on 3500 Bayview St., Seaford.

District officials notified the families of the 591 students that attend the school through its automated messaging system before the start of the school day. Febrizio said plumbers expect to have the water main break resolved by the end of Monday in time for students to return to school Tuesday morning.
