Mourners Raise $10K For Family Of LI Councilman Who Died Suddenly

SEAFORD, NY — The sudden death of Hempstead Town Councilman Chris Carini has led to a fundraising effort to support his family.

Carini died Sunday at age 49. No cause of death was immediately known.

A GoFundMe page has received more than $10,000 in donations.

As a member of the 5th District, Carini "was a large voice for the community, helping his constituents with anything from graffiti to big town issues," the description states. "He was a voice for the people. Everyone loved Chris Carini."

Reaction to his Carini crossed party lines, as former Town Supervisor, and congressional candidate, Democrat Laura Gillen said on X: "So sad to hear about the passing of Councilman Carini. Extending my deepest sympathy to his family."

Former Assemblywoman Judy Griffin added these comments: "I am saddened by the sudden passing of Councilman Chris Carini. While serving our mutual constituents in Baldwin & Freeport, I valued his friendly demeanor & our work together. My deepest condolences to his wife & children."

Carini is survived by his wife Danielle, and children Ava and Joseph.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
