Gun Dealer Sentenced To 35 Years For Washington Heights Sales: DA

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — A man is facing more than 30 years in prison for trafficking weapons in Washington Heights, Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance announced Monday.

Abdul Davis, of New Jersey, was sentenced to 35 years in prison Monday, prosecutors said. Davis, 53, was found guilty in February on more than 100 counts of charges such as criminal firearms possession, criminal sale of a firearm and conspiracy, prosecutors said.

Between March 16, 2015 and April 19, 2016 Davis sold an undercover NYPD detective 80 weapons and ammunition in 26 separate transactions, prosecutors said. All of the sales took place in the undercover cop's vehicle on West 166th Street and Saint Nicholas Avenue for about $1,150 per firearm, prosecutors said.

"In addition to holding those who commit gun violence accountable, my Office proactively targets major firearms traffickers who inundate our communities with thousands of illegal guns each year," Vance said in a statement. "Abdul Davis orchestrated a dangerous scheme to import 80 pistols, revolvers, and assault weapons — including the same high-powered model used in the Sandy Hook massacre — across state lines for profit."

Also sentenced Monday were co-defendants Milton Tillery, 39, and Malik Rainey, 45, who supplied Davis with weapons purchased out-of-state, prosecutors said. The weapons Davis sold in New York were purchased from Tillery in Virginia and Rainey in Georgia, prosecutors said. Tillery was sentenced to one-and-a-half to three years in prison and Rainey was sentenced to five years in prison.
