Man Tries, Fails To Steal Washington Heights Cash Machine: NYPD

The man broke into a Riverside Drive apartment building, but left empty handed.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — The NYPD is trying to identify a man who tried to steal a cash machine after breaking into a Washington Heights apartment building, police said.

The man broke into a residential building on Riverside Drive between West 162nd and 163rd streets in the early morning hours of Jan. 19, police said. Once inside, the man headed for the building's laundry room, where he attempted to steal a cash machine, police said.

But the task proved too difficult. The wannabe thief eventually ditched the cash machine and fled the apartment building empty handed, police said.

The NYPD recently released photos of the suspect (seen above). The man was last seen wearing a brown jacket, a gray hoodie, a black baseball cap and carrying a red backpack.
