Would-Be Inwood Rapist Arrested, Police Say
The man tried to rape a woman on her walk home from the West 215th Street subway station.

INWOOD, NY — A man is facing charges for the attempted rape of a woman in Inwood, police said.
Vondell White, 27, was arrested Monday night and charged with attempted rape, sex abuse and forcible touching, police said. White, of Brooklyn, followed a woman home from the West 215th Street subway station on the morning of May 6 and attempted to rape her in front of her building, police said.
White approached the 34-year-old woman from behind and reached under her skirt as she was opening her front gate, police said. He then place a hand over the woman's mouth to muffle her screams.

The 34-year-old victim managed to fight White off and run inside her building before he could continue the assault, police said. White fled the scene after the building's door locked behind the woman.
