2 Police Officers Injured During ICE Operation In Manhattan: NYPD
Immigration agents in unmarked sweatshirts were arresting people in a chaotic scene that left two NYPD officers injured.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — Two police officers suffered minor injuries Wednesday morning during a confrontation with federal immigration agents in Washington Heights, New York City Police Department officials said Thursday.
According to the NYPD, the chaotic scene unfolded because Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents conducted multiple arrests in the area, prompting 911 calls about armed men pulling people from cars.
NYPD officers were canvassing the area to look for armed men ripping people out of cars, after a man was forced into an unmarked black SUV by a group that included federal immigration officers on West 157th Street and Broadway around 8:11 a.m.

NYPD officers then spotted a group of men chasing someone near 164th St. and Broadway a few minutes later, and they intervened to stop the chase, according to the police.
But, police stopped intervening once they realized the suspects in question were federal agents, since the NYPD is not allowed to assist in immigration enforcement.

Police officers told Patch that the ICE agents verbally identified themselves to the NYPD officers, but that they were wearing sweatshirts without any visible markings.
The officers were treated for minor injuries sustained during the interaction on the scene.
