Empanadas, Italian Among New Greenwich Village Restaurants
Four new restaurants recently opened in Greenwich Village. Take a look at the new dining options in the neighborhood.
WEST VILLAGE, NY — A popular empanada spot, an Italian restaurant, a pasta haven, and a sushi eatery are among the latest restaurants coming to Greenwich Village.
Here's a rundown of the openings we learned about this week:
Canto: 117 Perry Street

Canto is a new Italian restaurant with small plates, salads, seafood, soups, pasta, meat, and an expansive cocktail list.
It is open Sundays through Wednesdays from 5 to 11 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays from noon to midnight, and Saturdays from 5 p.m. to midnight.

Cafe Tola: 124 MacDougal Street
Cafe Tola, already a hugely successful empanada spot in Chicago, has opened its doors in the West Village.
The menu isn't expansive, but features its signature dishes: several types of empanadas, horchata, and Takis.
You can also request specific empanadas with 24-hour notice as the flavors rotate daily.
Eater NY was the first publication to report on Cafe Tola's Lower Manhattan opening.
Maestro Pasta: 102 MacDougal Street
In another MacDougal Street restaurant opening, Maestro Pasta has recently opened its second location in Lower Manhattan.
The menu offers you customizable options where you pick what type of pasta you want, what sauce you want to add, and any other fillings or garnishes you might want. Maestro Pasta is also in the process of securing its liquor license.
ToMo21 Sushi: 172 Thompson Street
ToMo21 is replacing the beloved Sushi Tomoe that served customers out of the same storefront for 40 years. The new menu is almost unchanged from the original one, and it is also the same chef. The main difference is the restaurant is now operated by new ownership.
The new restaurant is 800-square-feet.
It is open Tuesday to Sunday for lunch and dinner sessions with a two-hour closure window in between. You can find out the specific hours of operation on its Instagram page.
