Fans Remember 'Friend' Matthew Perry At West Village Memorial: Reports
"He was always Chandler," one fan told reporters outside the makeshift memorial at 90 Bedford St.

WEST VILLAGE, NY — Fans of the show "Friends" came to pay their respects to the late Matthew Perry outside the iconic West Village apartment building used in the iconic sitcom, according to reports.
"The one where we all lost a friend," one person wrote in a tribute note in the style of a "Friends" episode title taped outside of the building at 90 Bedford St., made famous by Perry and his co-stars.
"For me, it's like I've lost an old friend," Genney Lambyn, who was visiting from France, told CBS.

Perry, who played Chandler Bing on "Friends" for 10 seasons, was discovered dead of an apparent drowning on Saturday at his Los Angeles home. He was 54.
"A lot of people in our group were actually crying. Everyone was too emotional and we actually felt the goosebumps," Ashwin Saxene, visiting from Florida, also told CBS.

Fan and Staten Island resident Vish Weerasingha told the New York Post that Perry's Chandler was her "favorite character" of the iconic sitcom, which aired from 1994 to 2004.
“He was the main character to put a smile on,” Weerasingha said. “He was definitely the favorite character.”
Others, like Weerasingha's partner, Jamie George, told the Post that they were thinking about Perry's struggles with addiction to alcohol and opiates — of which he wrote candidly about in his recent memoir published last year: "Friends, lovers and the Big Terrible Thing."
“Even when he was struggling, he was making us put a smile on,” George said.
Another fan, Jeniffer Alvez, told The Post that Perry and his co-stars on "Friends" helped her get through the pandemic — which struck the city just months after she moved to the Big Apple from Brazil.
“All of them, especially Matthew, help me through the darkest time in my life,” Alvez told a reporter from The Post, who noted that the fan was in tears.
“They were such a part of my life. I didn’t know I would feel this way,” she said. “I’m not sure how I’m going to feel when I watch ‘Friends’ again after this. I hope he rests in peace.”
