GREENWICH VILLAGE, NY — A Greenwich Village stuffed flatbread spot near Washington Square Park was just named one of the best affordable eateries in New York City.

Eater NY senior critic Robert Sietsema recently compiled a list of the 40 best inexpensive dining destinations in New York City.

The lone representative from Greenwich Village was Crop Circle at 126 MacDougal Street.

Crop Circle is best known for its Guokui, which is a thin, crispy flatbread stuffed with various fillings, and is a popular street snack from the Hubei Province in China.

Here's what Sietsema had to say about the tasty Lower Manhattan eatery.

"Guokui is a stuffed flatbread invented in Shaanxi, perfected in Hubei, and now popular in Sichuan, Shanghai, and Singapore," Sietsema wrote in the Eater article. "On Greenwich Village’s hopping Macdougal Street, Crop Circle sells oblong flattened dough — stuffed with a choice of pork, pickled mustard greens, chicken, or best of all, spicy beef with Sichuan peppercorns — that’s lowered into a tandoor-like oven and baked till golden brown. Chefs Michael Zheng Chen and Zhuobu Zheng round out their menu with a few dim sum classics, including pork dumplings and shrimp rice-noodle rolls."

Crop Circle is open Sunday to Monday from 11:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., and Friday to Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.

The eatery opened at the address in August 2020, replacing a sushi joint.
