WEST VILLAGE, NY — A violent robber snuck up behind a man and punched him in the back of the head in a West Village theft detailed by the NYPD on Monday.

The robber attacked the 58-year-old man near the corner of West 13th and West Fourth streets on July 11 about 9 p.m., police said.

The attacker grabbed the man's cellphone and wallet and ran away, police said.

The 58-year-old was hospitalized at Bellevue after the attack, police said.

Emergency services took the man to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition, police said.

Police released a photo of the suspect Monday.
