No 25 Cent Martini For You, State Liquor Board Tells West Village
After receiving publicity for offering 25 cent martinis, a West Village bar was told it can't sell drinks for less than half off.

WEST VILLAGE, NY — The beginning of 2022 has not exactly been sunshine and roses in New York City, and now the state's government is bringing the hammer down on a West Village bar offering 25 cent martinis.
At the beginning of the month, Anton's announced it would be selling martinis for a single quarter through the end of January.
The special from the European wine bar and cafe at 570 Hudson Street received dozens of articles that generated significant buzz on social media.

But it seems like all good things have to come to an end.
Anton's announced over the weekend that, due to an "obscure" New York State liquor law it wasn't previously aware of, it had to end its 25 center martini deal — and instead offer the cocktail for no less than half of its original price.

It means the martinis will now be $9 — or 36 quarters.
"Due to an obscure NY State liquor law, of which we were completely unaware, and for which we received no warning or notice, we can no longer offer 25 cent martinis and Manhattans," Anton's wrote on Instagram. "Apparently, 'special' prices on liquor/wine cannot be offered any lower than 50 percent of an establishment's regular pricing."
"Wish us luck as we battle through a pending SLA case...just when we thought all the bureaucratic hurdles were behind us," Anton's added. "And please don't cancel your lunch reservations."
The comment section on Anton's post didn't exactly agree with the State Liquor Authority rule on drink price requirements.
"This is beyond stupid," one person wrote, while another person commented, "This is the dumbest rule I've heard in my life."
