Pizzeria From 'Eat Pray Love' Opening Soon In West Village
L'antica Pizzeria de Michele, the 150-year-old pizzeria based in Naples, Italy, is opening a storefront on Bank Street this spring.

WEST VILLAGE, NY — Get ready to have your Julia Roberts moment as the pizzeria featured in the hugely popular "Eat Pray Love" book and movie is opening in the West Village this spring.
L'antica Pizzeria de Michele recently announced it is arriving at 2 Bank Street in the spring of 2022, after initially being slated to open at the end of last year. However, the exact opening date has not been announced.
The pizzeria first opened in Naples, Italy, in 1870 and has been crafting pies for over 150 years at the location. It opened its first-ever U.S. joint in Hollywood in 2019.

The new West Village outpost will span two stories and three different rooms.
"The first room, facing Greenwich Ave., embodies a home kitchen-feel with multiple counters and seating options, including a back room facing Bank St., where guests will find a more formal, yet cozy dining area," reads a news release about the future opening. "The basement area will offer a multi-purpose space doubling as a private event venue, featuring an expansive wine cellar with top-tier wines from all over Italy."

The over 100-year pizzeria is known by many as the quaint and charming destination featured in Elizabeth Gilbert's "Eat Pray Love," which Julia Roberts also walks into in the movie version.
As made apparent in the movie clip, L'antica Pizzeria de Michele is best known for its Margherita pizza.
The restaurant also offers a wide selection of pasta.
Naples-born chef Michele Rubini will lead the West Village kitchen.
