WEST VILLAGE, NY — A popular Italian restaurant in the West Village recently got called out by a regular customer for continuing to add a 4 percent COVID-19 recovery surcharge to patrons checks over two months after the city's pandemic allowance expired, according to Eater NY.

Don Angie, at 103 Greenwich Avenue, confirmed to Eater that the restaurant had been adding the surcharge to checks from Aug. 17 to Oct. 24 — calling the move accidental and that the restaurant was not aware the city program had ended.

Since regular customer Ron Nigro called out Don Angie, the restaurant has donated $10,000 to City Harvest, but a spokesperson told Eater that "it wasn't meant to remunerate for the charges."
