2 Seals Set For Release Thursday In Hampton Bays

The seals are the last two in the hospital this season, officials say.

HAMPTON BAYS, NY — Two seals are set to find their way home after being released in Hampton Bays Thursday.

According to the New York Marine Rescue Center, Cobra and Shrimp are the last two seals in the hospital from the 2024 season. Shrimp is a male gray seal who was found stranded due to entanglement on May 4; Cobra is a female gray seal who was stranded due to a mouth injury and was found on June 13, NYMRC said.

"Come join us for their release!" NYMRC said.

The release will take place promptly at 6 p.m. at Tiana Beach and Pavilion, located at 90 Dune Road in Hampton Bays; those attending are advised to arrive early to secure a spot.
