HAMPTON BAYS, NY — Due to security concerns, the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary East Moriches Flotilla announced the cancellation of its annual Open House, originally scheduled for July 12 at Coast Guard Station Shinnecock, located at 100 Foster Ave in Hampton Bays.

The "difficult decision" was made because of "current security levels caused by recent global events," the USCG Auxiliary East Moriches Flotilla said.

"We regret having to cancel this year's Open House," said Flotilla Commander Andrew Tarantino. "Each year, hundreds of community residents attend the event. We appreciate the public's understanding and look forward to when we can schedule another Open House."

A major attraction each year is the releasing of a rehabilitated seal by the NY Marine Rescue Center — and that portion of the event has been rescheduled.

The Marine Rescue Center now plans to hold a public releasing of the seal at Tiana Bay on July 17, at 6 p.m. Tarantino said. For additional information on the release, click here.
