Drowning Man Dies After Being Pulled From Ocean In Hampton Bays: PD
The swimmer who was pulled from the water by another beach goer has died, police say.
SOUTHAMPTON, NY — A drowning man who was pulled from the ocean in Hampton Bays Monday afternoon has died, police said.
He was identified as Peter Dzakonski, 54, of Hampton Bays, police said.
According to Southampton Town police, at about 2:52 p.m., a call came in about Dzakonski, who was drowning on Dune Road, near Road H, in Hampton Bays. He was removed from the water by another beach goer and CPR was initiated, police said.

Southampton Town police patrol units, community response officers, detectives, Southampton Town marine units and the Hampton Bays Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to the scene.
Dzakonski was transported for further medical treatment; he later died, police said. While officials were at the scene, a second adult male was experiencing chest pain and difficulty breathing; he was also transported for further treatment, police said.

It was not immediately clear if the rip currents expected in Long Island waters Monday contributed to the incident, police said.
