'No Risk Of Explosion' For Grenade Found In Yard Of Hamptons Home: PD

The grenade has been removed, police say.

HAMPTON BAYS, NY — A grenade found by a homeowner cleaning their yard in Hampton Bays on Tuesday morning has been removed — and was deemed to be at no risk of explosion, police said.

According to Southampton Town police, the incident took place at about 10:30 a.m. at a residence in the area of Argonne Road East.

The resident said the grenade was found in the rear of the home, police said.

Southampton Town police patrol units and detectives headed to the scene; Suffolk County Emergency Services responded to assist with the disposal of the grenade, police said.

Police said these incidents are not uncommon and can occur while a residence is undergoing excavation and/or construction.
