Mayor: 'Thank You For Bringing Back Halloween'

In approving a revamped application for the annual Halloween parade in Westhampton Beach on Thursday night, Mayor Contrad Teller took a moment to thank the Westhampton Chamber of Commerce  and the school district's PTA for reversing a decision that would have left Main Street a ghost town on Halloween.

"I would like to thank the chamber president for the reinvention of the Halloween parade on Main Street. On behalf of the village, thanks to the chamber and the PTA for keeping the Halloween parade on Main Street," said Teller.

Earlier this month, it was learned that the previous chamber board made a decision last year to hand over the annual Halloween event to the PTA and to close it to the public. The PTA moved forward with an application to hold a parade that would run from the Westhampton Beach Elementary School to the traffic circle and back with festivities, which would be closed to the public, to follow at the Westhampton Beach Elementary School.

The news that the event would not take place on Main Street, hit hard among business owners and residents.

With approval by the village board on Thursday, the event will now take place on October 31 between 3 and 5 p.m. on Main Street with the parade kicking off at 3 p.m.
