Southampton Holds Last of Three Bully Prevention Seminars

The seminar focused on cyber-bullying and web crimes.

On Oct. 23, Southampton Town held the last of its three bully prevention seminars that were created as part of bullying prevention month. 

The seminar featured speakers Minerva Perez, who is the executive director of the Retreat and Detective Rory Forrestal from the Suffolk County Police Department Computer Crimes Unit. 

According to Southampton Councilwoman Christine Scalera, the seminar focused on cyber-bullying and web crimes.

Also during the evening, students, who submitted logos for a Southampton Youth Bureau Anti-Bullying logo contest were, honored with certificates of appreciation for their work from the town Board.

Previous to the Oct. 23 seminar, the town held two other events, one on Oct. 8 that featured guest speaker Helen Atkinson-Barnes from The Retreat, Jamie Issacs, and the Youth Bureau Act TWO Drama Troop and on Oct. 16, the town sponsored a workshop for school administrators, faculty and personnel.

"All three events were a tremendous success," said Councilwoman Scalera, who said she anticipates that the town will continue to hold anti-bullying events on an annual basis.
