Westhampton Beach High School Students Learn About Dangers Of Impaired Driving During 'Red Ribbon Week'
Representatives from the Suffolk County Sheriff's Office visited the school to facilitate a drunk driving simulation, district says.

WESTHAMPTON BEACH, NY —Westhampton Beach High School students engaged in activities recently to help them learn about the dangers of impaired driving.
Red Ribbon Week, which takes place each year between October 23 and October 31, according to a website describing the initiative, encourages young people to be drug-free.
As part of the Red Ribbon Week events at Westhampton Beach High School, representatives from the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office visited the school to facilitate a drunk driving simulation, the district said.

The experience offered students a "realistic and impactful look" at the dangers and consequences of impaired driving, the district said.
Also during the week, the school’s CURE Club hosted a can collection and recycling event and students wrote positive, drug-free messages on red paper strips during their English classes.

The strips were then linked to form a long chain that is displayed in the high school library, the district said.
