'Zombie House' Demolished In Manorville: Town Officials
The burned-out house was razed after pleas from residents to remove the "dangerous blight" from the neighborhood, officials say.

MANORVILLE, NY — A "zombie house" in Manorville, long a source of dismay for neighbors, was razed Tuesday, according to Brookhaven Town officials.
Councilwoman Karen Dunne Kesnig was joined by Brookhaven Town Supervisor Daniel Panico at the demolition of the burned-out home, located at 126 Silas Carter Road in Manorville, Panico said.
Late in 2023, the house sustained heavy fire damage after squatters moved in, creating a safety hazard for the neighborhood, officials added.

The house was demolished in accordance with Chapter 73 of the town code, which provides a "fasttrack" to rid neighborhoods of unsafe structures, the town said.
The cost of demolition and debris removal is the responsibility of the property owner, and the town places a lien on the property that is then placed on the tax bill. Suffolk County reimburses the town; they then collect the money from the property owner, officials said.

"Residents who live near this house asked that it be demolished, and the property cleaned up," Kesnig said. "I am happy that we were able to remove this dangerous blight from the neighborhood. I will continue to work with our law department to crack down on owners who allow their property to have a negative impact on the community."
Anyone with complaints about a zombie house in Council District 6 is asked to call Kesnig's office at 631-451-6502.
