Bellew Elemetary Receives Fire Safety Tips

School gets a visit from West Islip firefighters to discuss emergency preparations.

Community firefighters from the West Islip Fire Department visited Paul J. Bellew Elementary School to share and discuss important safety information with the students as part of National Fire Prevention Month in October.

The information included family preparation for fire emergencies, home escape plans and changing smoke alarm batteries every year. The fire department representatives also reviewed such survival concepts as “stop, drop and roll” and “stay low and go.”

After the assembly, the students had an opportunity to climb onto the fire trucks and check out the equipment. Kindergartners, first graders and second graders were all given coloring books and red firefighter hats as mementos of the visit.
