WEST ISLIP, NY — Long Island firefighters were called to battle two fires at the same time on Friday afternoon, according to fire department officials.

West Islip Fire Department crews were en route to a vehicle fire on Southern State Parkway when they received a call reporting a house fire at 146 Reynolds Road in West Islip around 12:45 p.m., officials said.

After receiving the second call, 3rd Assistant Chief Ryan Broderick assigned one engine crew to handle the vehicle fire and redirected all other responding units to the structure fire.

Upon arrival at the house fire, crews found heavy fire on the first floor of a two-story home, officials said.

"Crews quickly stretched hose lines and began an aggressive interior attack," firefighters said. "Shortly after arrival, Chief Broderick assumed command and transmitted a second alarm assignment due to heavy fire conditions throughout the dwelling."
