Firefighters Battle Raging Blaze At Long Island Home: FD

Firefighters battled a fire that broke out in a Long Island home early Thursday morning, officials say.

COPIAGUE, NY — Firefighters battled a raging house fire on Long Island early Thursday morning, according to the Copiage Fire Department.

Fire department officials said they were called to the house on South Strongs Avenue in Copiague around 3:15 a.m. with a "possible occupant trapped inside."

Upon arrival, Chiefs Broyles, Orlando, Guella and Weiss, along with the crew of Engine 1-3-9, found heavy fire conditions on the second floor of the residence and encountered multiple obstacles at the top of the stairs while making entry, officials said.

Firefighters said they initiated an "aggressive interior attack," and primary searches were completed by Truck 1-3-4 despite the challenging conditions.

The fire was brought under control in around 45 minutes, no occupants were found and no injuries were reported, officials said.

"We commend our members and mutual aid departments for their quick and professional response under difficult circumstances," officials said in a statement.

Mutual aid was provided by the Lindenhurst Fire Department, the Amityville Fire Department and the North Amityville Fire Company.

Suffolk County Police Department's Arson Squad is investigating the cause of the fire.
