High Winds Knock Out Power For Some in West Islip

High wind warning remains in effect until 9 a.m.

A number of residents in the area are without power Thursday morning after strong winds and rain battered Long Island overnight. 

As of 8:45 a.m., 30 Long Island Power Authority customers in West Islip are reporting power outages. There are more than 34,000 outages currently island-wide. 

A high wind warning remains in effect until 9 a.m. Thursday. The National Weather Service has reported wind gusts of up to 60 mph and has warned of falling trees and power lines.
