Letter: WI 'Grinch' Vandalizes Christmas Decorations

Lamp posts in town were damaged in December.

Editor's Note: The following letter was sent in from resident Don Boyle.

West Islip Beautification Society volunteers each year during the holiday season decorate the old fashion lampposts in West Islip with garland, lights and a bow. This year about 50 families decorated the 68 lampposts and clock on November 26th.

On December 9th or 10th someone vandalized the lights by stealing and breaking the l.e.d. bulbs on 36 of the lampposts causing them not to light. That is the reason why more than half of the decorative lighting on the lampposts will not be lit for the remainder of the holiday season. W.I.B.S. will not be able to replace them this year because of the cost which is more than $700.
