Meet Brock, Shelter Pet of the Week

Brock is a sweet adult male pup with a short, tan-and-white coat of fur at the Town of Islip Animal Shelter who's just waiting to find his forever home filled with much love and care to spare.

According to shelter staff, Brock's excellent with other female dogs, and would prefer a home with a female owner and no cats or kids, as he's had a rough time and it's clear he's been abused prior to his arrival at the shelter.

He's also already been neutered, and is up-to-date with his shots.

"Brock is a special boy. We spent a year trying to catch him, and when we finally did he was in rough shape. He was attacked by two dogs, and was pretty beat up and heartworm-positive," staff explained.

All of Brock's injuries have healed, staff said, having treated his heartworm, and now he's in search of a forever home.

"Brock gets along with female dogs. He knows quite a few commands, and is great on the leash. He's housebroken and very mellow and easy to handle; he's a pleasure to take out!" staff noted.

Brock's issues are with men, staff said, noting, "It's very obvious he was badly abused by a man as he's terrified of them. He's not aggressive at all; if a man approaches him, then he'll start shaking and try to get away. He's so much better with women, and has really bonded with one of the female kennel workers."

Staff also shared that as he becomes comfortable with someone, he becomes "very affectionate and will even get a little frisky and playful."

Staff members continued, "We know Brock has a ton of potential if he's just given the chance to come out of his shell. He's had a very rough life, and truly deserves a loving home."

Given his special needs, staff said a home with a female owner would be ideal. "No young children as they may frighten him, and possibly another dog because he perks up around them," they said.
