Kevin O'Connor will be the newest member of the West Islip Board of Education as O'Connor defeated Marcelle Crudele by a vote of 1,191 to 1,083. Also, local voters approved the $114.7 million budget for the 2013-14 school year by a vote of 1,617-1,022. The budget includes a 3.75 tax levy increase. In addition, Proposition #2, passed by a vote of 1,773 to 706. The measure will change the structure of future board of education votes in West Islip. Future BOE elections will now be at-large races, with the top two or three vote getters, depending on that year's race, winning election. Incumbent trustees Annmarie LaRosa and Scott Brady both ran unopposed and were re-elected.
