Reminder: West Islip Schools Open This Week
Winter break cut short to make up for time lost following Hurricane Sandy.

Students across the West Islip School District will return to class on Tuesday, despite the previously planned winter break.
Classes are in session throughout the week to make up for some of the days lost in the week following Hurricane Sandy, when hazardous conditions and power outages kept schools from opening.
During Thursday night's Board of Education meeting, Superintendent Richard Simon said classes will resume a normal schedule, and it will be "business as usual" for the week.

He added that less than 10 percent of the district's staff would be out for the week. Those that had previously scheduled plans and were unable to cancel them were allowed to remain off for the week.
Parents whose children will not be attending school for the week are advised to notify the district of their child's abscence.
