A West Islip Boy Scout was congratulated by local government officials as he earned the rank of Eagle Scout on May 11.
Michael Anthony Cairo, of Troop 71, was honored in a ceremony for his achievement.
As part of his Eagle Scout project, Cairo planted trees at Oquenock Elementary School.
Legislator Thomas Barraga was on hand to congratulate Cairo and issue him a proclamation.
