Paw Prints Assistant Editor Miranda Cawley named Student Journalist of the Year at Long Island Press High School Journalism Awards.

West Islip High School students aren't just this week, they're also earning awards for their journalistic talents.
Miranda Cawley, Assistant Editor of Paw Prints, the high school's student-run publication, was named Student Journalist of the Year at the Long Island Press High School Journalism Awards Gala on Tuesday.
Cawley was selected from a pool of hundreds of applicants from more than 50 schools across Nassau and Suffolk Counties.

Paw Prints also placed second for the Hofstra University Newspaper of the Year Award. Top honors went to The Maroon Echo, from neighboring Bay Shore High School.
Close to 400 participants gathered at Hofstra University's David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex for the ceremony, which honored the talents of high school journalists across Long Island.
