WEST ISLIP, NY — West Islip residents will head to the polls Tuesday to cast their ballots in the 2023 to 2024 school budget vote and school board candidate election.

The West Islip School District's proposed budget of $134,220,230 has a budget-to-budget increase of 3.05 percent and a tax levy increase of 1.87 percent.

It is the 12th year the state is operating under the tax cap legislation, and the 12th year in a row the
district has presented a budget within that tax levy limitation, the district's website said.

The proposed budget maintains the district’s current academic program, provides additional
mental health support, continues its exemplary fine arts and athletic offerings and strengthens its academic intervention services. It also supports the social and emotional development of our students, professional development opportunities for staff and curriculum based improvements, its website said.

The budget will also expand on a "high level" of security for district facilities, as well as on access for special education students, ensures the replenishment and replacement of dated technology
resources and equipment and provides further enhancements to our instructional program, its website said.
