WEST ISLIP, NY — School safety was the focus at a West Islip Board of Education meeting on Tuesday where the 2024-2025 budget was approved, according to a report from News12.

The meeting was held one day after police arrested a student who brought a gun and ammunition to school.

The budget was approved at nearly $139 million, but parents want to know if the money will help enhance safety and security measures for students, News12 said.

"I would love to see where things are going just so I know that it really is going to the most important place, which is the safety of our kids," parent Jacqueline Baynes said at the meeting, according to the report.
