West Islip Student Obtains Perfect Score On IB Business Exam
Less than 2 percent of IB students worldwide achieve a perfect score of 7 on all assessments.

WEST ISLIP, NY — A West Islip student is being recognized for his outstanding academic achievement.
Alexander Miranda, a senior at West Islip High School, scored a perfect 7 on his 2022 International Baccalaureate Business and Management assessments.
Less than 2 percent of IB students worldwide achieve a perfect score of 7 on all assessments, the district said.

“Alex is an intelligent and conscientious business student, and this phenomenal achievement is a result of his hard work, focus and dedication,” said IB Business and Management teacher Patricia Morgigno. “He is an asset to the business education department and the West Islip community.”
In the IB Business and Management course, students learn to analyze, discuss and evaluate business activities at local, national and international levels. Students learn "key characteristics" of business organization and environment through the exploration of six concepts: change, culture, ethics, globalization, innovation and strategy.

It also encourages the appreciation of ethical concerns at both a local and global level.
The external assessment consists of two written examination papers.
The first is based on a pre-seen case study. The second consists of structured questions based on stimulus material and an extended response question that assesses students’ understanding of the key concepts of the course.
