Word of the Week - Creek Defender

A dedicated volunteer who protects the local creeks

Before the Spring growth appears, Save The Great South Bay hosts Community Creek Clean Ups in each of the 16 towns and villages across the South Shore. Volunteers from the community come together to track and remove waste found in the creeks which serve as arteries of freshwater to the Great South Bay.

Our dedicated team of Creek Defenders lead their communities on missions to ensure creeks are unblocked and unclogged so they can flow freely. Removing waste from creeks also stops pollutants before they can reach the bay. Bonus! Creek cleanups are a great way to bring communities together to get outside, learn about their hyperlocal environment and make a difference.
