On Thursday,1/19/12, MoveOn members will rally at the Bank of America office in White Plains to demand that the president hold the big banks accountable by ordering a federal investigation into Wall Street's involvement in the foreclosure crisis, and oppose a sweetheart deal that would give them immunity from investigation.
The event is part of a national day of action called “Yes He Can” taking place across the country at OFA campaign offices in all 50 states, and at some of the biggest banks in America.
Participants will call on President Obama to stand strong with the 99% and make sure the big banks are held accountable. At the event, participants will deliver a petition with over 220,000 signatures demanding President Obama, "Hold Wall Street banks accountable by fully investigating the big bank fraud that caused the housing crisis."
“Millions of homes and jobs lost, and the president has yet to hold the banks accountable for the fraudulent foreclosure practices that nearly torpedoed the economy,” said Marjorie Morales, a local MoveOn member. “President Obama has the power to order a federal investigation and start the year with a real win for the 99% movement. It’s far past time to hold the big banks responsible for the havoc they wreaked on homeowners and the economy.”
The rally and petition delivery comes after State Attorneys General temporarily blocked a sweetheart deal that would have given broad immunity to the banks for their role in the housing crisis, and the president now has the power to decide whether or not to move forward with a full federal investigation that would finally hold the banks accountable.
The event will take place on Thursday, January 19th at 12:30 p.m. at the Bank of America office in White Plains at 206 Main Street in White Plains.
