The White Plains Democratic City Committee overwhelmingly endorsed White Plains Common Councilman David Buchwald for the New York State Assembly.
With 67 of the 68 votes cast by Democratic Party District Leaders, Buchwald earned the endorsement this evening over Jeremiah Frei-Pearson, a White Plains lawyer (who received 1 vote) and Dr. Clifford Gervitz of Harrison.

Since the votes are weighted by size of election district, the total weighted vote total was 7,984.5 for Buchwald to 65.5 for Frei-Pearson.
If Buchwald wins the party’s nomination he will challenge Republican Robert Castelli for the new 93rd State Assembly District, which includes Bedford, Harrison, Lewisboro, Mount Kisco, New Castle, North Castle, North Salem, Pound Ridge and half of White Plains.
“It is a great privilege to endorse David in his bid for the New York State Assembly. David will bring his record of fiscal responsibility, ethics reform, and advocacy for the environment and the quality of life for residents with him to Albany,” said Democratic Party District Leader Thomas Caruso.
“David has worked tirelessly for our community and this vote shows that White Plains has overwhelming confidence in his ability to represent the citizens of this district in Albany,” said Liz Shollenberger, the Chair of the White Plains Democratic City Committee.
In addition to serving on the White Plains Common Council since 2010 David is actively involved in his community. He is on the Board of Trustees of the White Plains Historical Society and is a former board member of the White Plains Downtown Residents Association.
He has also been a volunteer at the White Plains clinic of the Westchester County Earned Income Tax Credit Program, where he has helped low- and lower-middle-income residents in filling out their tax returns.
Since 2010, David has served as Chairman of the Metro-North Railroad Commuter Council, during which time he has spoken out against fare increases and successfully pushed for quiet cars on trains and Metro-North’s Pledge to Customers, which was released last week.
Buchwald graduated from Yale University with a B.S. in Physics and received his J.D. cum laude from Harvard Law School and a Masters in Public Policy from the John F. Kennedy School of Government.
He has worked as an economist at National Economic Research Associates. Today Buchwald works in the tax department of the law firm of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP, where he represents both business and pro bono clients in need of tax advice.
