Celebrate Greek Easter at Greca Mediterranean Kitchen + Bar

Celebrate "Pascha" on April 24 with a Greek feast in White Plains

Greca Mediterranean Kitchen + Bar at 189 Main Street in White Plains will offer its patrons a rare opportunity to celebrate Greek Easter on April 24 with a banquet of traditional favorites from delectable roasted meats to Pastitsio, a Greek casserole favorite.

“On Easter Sunday, lamb is roasted on a spit or roasted whole in large ovens; a beautiful brioche-like bread is baked; eggs are boiled and dyed a deep red color; and the table is filled with roasted meats, stuffed vegetables, and pastitsio, that wonderful baked macaroni dish that has layers of ground meat and feta-infused creamy bechamel sauce,’’ said restaurateur Constantine “Dino” Kolitsas.

Kolitsas said he and Chef Kosta Ndreu have created a Greek Easter feast at their White Plains location that promises to transport guests to the Greek countryside. With a prix fixe menu, it is perfect for large and small groups either looking to celebrate the holiday or enjoy the experience of being at a Greek Easter table in the Aegean.

Opened last October in the heart of White Plains, Greca Mediterranean Kitchen + Bar, has quickly established itself as a place where Greek cuisine is at once authentic and elevated. In a space that is at once elegant and comfortable. The restaurant has become a mecca for Greek food afficionados, gourmands and foodies.

As with the rest of the Orthodox Christian world, Easter is rarely celebrated the same day as “Western” Easter. And such is the case this year, when “Pascha” (from the Hebrew “Pesach”) falls one week after.

It is a special day because traditional Greeks are breaking a Lenten fast. For 40 days they are prohibited from eating “meat, dairy and fish with blood,” says Chef Ndreu, noting that with the exception of mollusks and crustaceans, the diet is essentially vegan.

As part of the prix fixe feast, Greca's guests on April 24 will enjoy a festive table where they will dine on:

Roast Lamb

Greek Easter Soup

Marouli Salad

Dips

Kalamakia (Pork Skewers)

Loukaniko (traditional village sausage)

Greek-style Roast Chicken

Pastitsio

Yemista (stuffed tomatoes and peppers),

Lemon Potatoes

Red Easter eggs

Tsoureki (traditional Easter bread)

Dessert: Baklava and Revani.

Parking is available at The Opus Hotel (valet and open to the public) as well as at several municipal lots within two blocks of the restaurant (Court Street, The Galleria, Church St & Hamilton Ave, and City Center).
