Cops Warn Of Uptick In Theft Of 1 Type Of Car In Commuter Lots
Thieves were able to enter without setting off alarms and may have used a tool to create new key fobs, White Plains police said.
WHITE PLAINS, NY — Police are steeping up patrols, and offering tips to car owners as thieves appear to be targeting a particular make and model of car parked in commuter lots.
White Plains Public Safety says that over the past few weeks, the department has noted an uptick in incidents of 2024-2025 Honda CRV thefts.
Police say the incidents all seemed to take place after the owners parked their vehicles in municipal parking lots during their morning commutes.

The thieves were able to easily force entry into the CRVs without setting off alarms and have possibly used a reprogramming tool to create new key fobs during these vehicle thefts, according to police.
White Plains police say that their investigators have developed a pattern sheet that has been distributed to all patrol sectors so the issue will get the attention it needs.

Police strongly suggest that Honda owners take the following measures that may help law enforcement if their vehicles are stolen:
- Sign up to Honda Link Tracking Services.
- Place an Apple Airtag device in the vehicle.
- Report any suspicious activity.
