Roach, Hockley, Hyland to Face-Off in Mayoral Debate

WPCNA, in cooperation with the White Plains Concerned Citizens for Open Space (WPCCOS) will sponsor a special 2011 Mayoral Debate on Wednesday, March 23 at 7:30 pm in the Ridgeway School Auditorium.

The candidates are , also the common council president, local businessman and former NFL superstar , and local realtor and former Common Council member .

The TV-style debate, with timed answers and rebuttals, will be moderated by White Plains Times Publisher Pat Casey, who will draw her questions from those submitted by WPCNA and WPCCOS members. The debate will be video-taped by White Plains Public Access and rebroadcast, beginning Saturday, March 26, on cable TV channels 45 and 76.

 Please send your topic suggestions and brief questions to debate@wpcna.org by 5:00 pm, Thursday March 17.  The debate will include as many of your questions and cover as many of your topics as possible. The candidates will also answer a limited number of questions from the audience after the debate.

Roach, who has the endorsement of the Democratic, Working Families and Independence parties, is a trial lawyer, first elected to the Common Council in 2001, where he serves on the Recreation Advisory, Personnel and Green Technology Committees. He says protecting the environment and making government open and efficient are some of his key issues.

Hyland, a registered Independence Party member, has been endorsed by the Republican and Conservative parties.  A football celebrity who played in the NFL for 11 years, he is the owner of the Sports Page Pub in White Plains and an agent for MassMutual Life Insurance.  He says he's an outsider who understands the tax payer, small business owner, and business in general.

Hockley, who ran against Adam Bradley for mayor in 2009, will run as the candidate of his own People Over Politics Party.  Currently on staff at Houlihan Lawrence in White Plains, he served on the Budget & Management, Open Space Acquisition, and Capital Projects Committees as a Councilman.  He says he will reduce taxes, preserve the integrity of the neighborhoods, and make City Hall efficient.

The Mayoral Debate is sure to draw a capacity crowd.  Come early to get a good seat!  The meeting will get underway promptly at 7:30 pm to allow time for audience participation.
