FEMA has released resources for residents to request assistance following the impact of Hurricane Ida.

Registering for Assistance

  • Survivors may register using the FEMA App, online at www.disasterassistance.gov, or by telephone at 800-621-3362 or (TTY) 800-462-7585.
    1. Those who use 711 Relay or Video Relay Services may call 800-621-3362.
    2. Registering online is the quickest way to get assistance.
  • If you have insurance, file a claim with your insurance company and start documenting your damage before applying to FEMA. FEMA cannot duplicate insurance payments but may be able to help where homeowners or flood insurance did not.
  • If you have flood insurance, report your loss immediately to your insurance agent or carrier.
  • If you are able to safely return to your home, before you discard anything take as many photos and videos of your flood damaged home and personal property as possible including flood water lines on the outside of the structure. For appliances and electronics, take a photograph of the make, model and serial number.
  • It’s important to know that each FEMA applicant is unique as to their situation and needs.
    1. FEMA reviews each application to determine which programs could be of assistance to them.
    2. This may include other federal, state, local and volunteer agencies.
    3. Register with FEMA, explain your situation and see what types of assistance you may be eligible for.
